May 6, 2008: The following have been nominated as office-bearers of the executive committee of the Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM): President - Manmohan Singh; senior vice-presidents - Yoginderpal Gupta and Kanwalpreet Singh;
vice-presidents - Rawail Sandhu, Bhupinder Rattan, Daljit Kohli, Gian Jaggu and Yashpal Jhabal;
General secretary - Amrit Lal Mannan; secretary - Bhupinder Singh Chand; Press secretary - Jasbir Jas;
and executive members - Hari Singh Amar, Dev Raj Sharma, Gurdeep Singh, Harminder Sandhu, Harinder Mohan Singh, Dr Hardeep Singh Deep, Rakesh Sharma, R.P.S. Bedi, Varinderjit Singh Jyoti, Dr Ashok Arora and Balbir Singh Randhawa.
~ April 22, 2008: Manmohan Singh has been elected president of the Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM), an organisation for the development of the city, during a meeting held at the Ashoka Senior Secondary School here. The outgoing president, Harbhajan Singh Gill, presented a report about the activities of the manch during the last year. Harmohan Singh Bedi, senior member and former president of the manch talked about the achievements of the manch. They proposed the name of Manmohan Singh as president for the year 2008-09. The decision was unanimously welcomed by the members present. The patron of the manch Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala, prof. Mohan Singh and Pritam Singh Kalsi were among the other members present.
~ AVM organised a public-police interaction where Police gets serious on image change - March 25, 2008: Police reforms, though a distant dream in Punjab, are emerging as a subject of discussion with the general public. At least a beginning seems to have been made. This is the impression that a casual observer would get after attending a seminar entitled “Police-Public interaction” organised by the Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM). Manch president Harbhajan Singh Gill enlightened the audience on the reforms and facilities introduced by SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh and introduced in all the police stations of the city such as the appointment of lady police receptionists (PROs) who are supposed to welcome all complainants with a smile and guide them accordingly about the provisions of “Write your own FIR” scheme, initially available at the Sadar police station and the Golden Temple.To sensitise the police force, various refresher courses were being organised. Rawail Singh Sandhu, principal Y.P. Gupta and others participated in the question-answer session. ~
AVM organised a function to release the documentary film "The City of Amritsar" produced by Mr. Jogider Kalsi [from Toronto-Canada] on 20th Jan 2007 at 4 pm. Dr Inderjit Kaur from Pingal Wara will release the D.V.D of the film at Ashoka Sr. Sec. School Amritsar. AVM invites all citizens of mritsar for the previw of teh movie. The film shows the development of Amritsar City at various stages.
